Big question: How does the media influence the way people think?

 

 Journalism Activity 1- This is for the first lesson of class. Issues can be twisted, you decide how and why.

Topic: Obama administration is putting a tax on Christmas.   Tax v.s. no tax

Guiding questions:

What is the difference between a tax and a fee?

Why promote or advertise a product? Who's job is it?

Directions:

1. Open a word document, two columns or three. It depends on which literacy technique below you use.

2.  Use one of the literacy techniques below (A-D) to break down the text. I will go over all four, you choose.

      A. MVP from each article, Most Valuable Point. Write the statement that triggers you on the left and the MVP on the right.

3. Open each article and read on netbook. Compare the 5 articles and the message each was trying to make.
