A citizen is.......
Citizenship is the status of a person recognized under the law as being a legal member of a sovereign state. A person may have multiple citizenships.
Nationality is often used as a synonym for citizenship. You can change your citizenship but not your nationality.
Good citizenship is sometimes viewed as requiring both intellectual skills (such as critical thinking) and participatory skills (such as deliberating civilly, monitoring the government, building coalitions, managing conflict peacefully and fairly, and petitioning, speaking or testifying before public bodies).

There are multiple ways to be a citizen
1. Parents are citizens If one or both of a person's parents are citizens of a given state, then the person may have the right to be a citizen of that state as well.
2. Born within a country Some people are automatically citizens of the state in which they are born.
3. Marriage to a citizen Many countries fast-track naturalization based on the marriage of a person to a citizen. Countries which are destinations for such immigration often have regulations to try to detect sham marriages where a citizen marries a non-citizen typically for payment, without them having the intention of living together.
4. Naturalization grants citizenship to people who have entered the country legally, been granted permit to stay, or been granted political asylum. Naturalization is subject to conditions which may include being in a country for a set period of time, passing a test demonstrating reasonable knowledge of the language or way of life of the host country, good conduct (no serious criminal record) and moral character (such as drunkenness, or gambling), vowing allegiance to their new state or its ruler and renouncing their prior citizenship. Some states allow dual citizenship and do not require naturalized citizens to formally renounce any other citizenship. Lottery immigration, Dreamers, Chain migration.

Demographics definition: Demography is the study of human populations – their size, composition and distribution across place – and the process through which populations change. Births, deaths and migration are the 'big three' of demography, jointly producing population stability or change. The study of the size, growth, and distribution of the human population is important to political, economic, and social portraits of who Americans are. A census every 10 years gives us this portrait of our citizens. Look at census poster in front of room. What characteristics of the population do you see?

We've been following the case of Justin Carter, the Texas teen who's been jailed near San Antonio since February. It started when he posted a Facebook message saying he would go "shoot up a kindergarten." Austin Police arrested him and seized his computer and a grand jury indicted him in April on a charge of making a terroristic threat. Because a judge set bail at $500,000, the 19-year-old can't get out to await trial.
"He's really sorry," said Jack Carter, Justin's father. "He just got caught up in the moment ... and didn't think about the implications."
While Carter's example is extreme and, as police contend, illegal, he isn't alone in posting something on social media and later feeling deep regret. The relationship was the focus of a 2011 study called "I Regretted the Minute I Pressed Share," by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University. The Carter case presents a timely opportunity to revisit what the researchers found:
